Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically.
