Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French relocated down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically.
