[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

The background of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Eightteen Thirteen. Hazard is thought to be a by-product of Azzahr, which means ‘the die’ a game played by Arabs.

The game evolved as it traveled from the Arab regions to Europe and then to the UK. By the early 18th century, cultivated game rules for Hazard had been established. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is assumed to have been brought to America by early French colonizers. In the mid-1700s, when the British defeated the French in Canada, the French settlers relocated to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, clubs and wharfs and a simplified ‘American’ style of Craps was created. The game headed west and is a popular game that is participated in all over the U.S. and around the world.

The name ‘Craps’ is theorized to be a French articulation of the word crabs, which refers to a pair of ones. There are 2 general varieties of Craps that are wagered on-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, accurately named because it is bet on the streets is where a hurler makes a point and then attempts to acquire that point. The betting is made either with or opposed to the shooter and a player must cover the wager in order for the game to carry on.

In casino Craps, which is the common game, gambled on in casinos, the betting house funds the game. The players wager against the casino-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps used to be a quite well-liked casino game but in the last 20 years had divided itself and different games, like poker and twenty-one became even more well-loved. However, Craps is experiencing a surge in recognition once again in internet casinos and in real betting houses.
